Merantau is a migration from one place to another place to find out a better life or knowledge. In Indonesia, most of all the society had migrated from their hometown. There are some ethnic that known as "perantau sejati". They are Minang, Bugis, Batak, and Banjar. Variety factors that leads this ethnic to do migration. For example economic factor, knowledge, and philosophy of life. Parallel with this migration, a new phenomenon would appears, and it is very ascending to be studied. That phenomenon are how migrant can survive and adapt to new culture. While, they have a different cultures. The other interesting phenomenon is how they can educate their kid about the culture, in order to make ethnic identity. Therefore, the author was interested in conducting an analysis about the role of parental communication in the formation of ethnic identity on second generation of Minang's migrant.
