PT YYZ is a ceramic tableware manufacturing company. In Indinesia, it is the market leader in the middle-low tableware market. Currently, PT YYZ is in tight competition with competitors from China. Hence, the company needs to maintain its competitive edge by being efficient and effective in its daily operations, which includes the management of its inventory of raw materials. An overstocked inventory is one problem that creates inefficiency for the company, because it leads to high inventory investment. The objective of this writing is to find solutions that will help the company to manage its inventory at the desired level of three-month coverage, so that it can utilize a minimum inventory investment. The analysis is based on the concept of Operations Consulting Tool, which entails Problem Definition, Data Gathering, Data Analysis and Solution Development, Cost Impact and Payoff Analysis, and Implementation. It used tools such as issue trees, the five forces analysis, plant tours using RPA questionnaire and RPA rating sheet, flowchart, and thereby discovered that the overstock problem is caused by unintegrated inventory planning, lack of monitoring and warning systems for management, and absence of a purchasing plan. From data analysis it was concluded that the problems originated in various entities such as Marketing, Purchasing, Management, and Supplier. To seek solutions to these problems, a new flowchart is proposed in order to integrate inventory planning between related departments and a monitoring and warning system, namely a Process Dashboard, for higher levels in the company. This new system of inventory planning and control will help the company to monitor the inventory and reduce the inventory overstock, thus enabling the company to maintain the inventory at the desired three months level of coverage.
